Up Front and Centre – New Orleans Music at the End of the Twentieth Century
Jay Mazza

Jay Mazza is a writer and long-time fixture in the New Orleans music scene.  He recently published his first book, “I got Fish in the Head – A Radiators Retrospective“.

Jay has now completed his next book “Up Front and Center – New Orleans Music at the end of the 20th Century“.  The book is a history of the music scene in New Orleans during the last two decades of the 1900s.  It features discussion and analysis of such subjects as the rise of Frenchmen Street, the brass band revival, the second generation of funk, and the development of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

Grant funds from the Foundation will assist with publication of the book, which is expected to be released in the weeks preceding the run up to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in April 2012.
